A cavity forms when bacteria from food debris caught between the teeth break down sugars and produce acid that dissolves the tooth — a condition also known as dental caries (tooth decay).
Cavity treatment is the way we restore teeth affected by decay as described above. Treatment uses restorative materials such as resin, inlays, and crowns.
Stages of Cavity Progression

A stage that can be corrected with simple treatment if detected early.

A stage in which the decay progresses increasingly faster.

Cavity reaching the pulp
A stage of severe pain; root canal treatment is required.

Severe cavity extending into the gums
A stage requiring extraction followed by replacement with an artificial tooth.
